These classic gold rimless 3 piece antique eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The arms are marked ''AO Renaissance 49-19-140 Made in Japan Cortland 301 CE'' and the glasses are otherwise unmarked. The bridge and rims are engraved with a leaf and ladder filigree pattern and the arms have double beading and ovals.
This is a new frame made by the very first frame manufacturer in the United States - American Optical. This frame is from their recent line called ''Renaissance'', inspired by some of their old ones. This model is called the Cortland and it's a very nicely done three-piece mount, also called a rimless frame these days. Great filigree throughout, top quality screws and fittings and the nose pads are quite similar to the old AO shell pads, very well-done. The Renaissance line is mostly all titanium frame structure and then finished with real gold, some are even gold-filled, including the Cortland frames, which are 1/10 12K GF, just like in the old days, extremely rare in a contemporary frame. Gold-filled finish tends to outlast contemporary finishes significantly, and I'd expect the Cortland frames to last a good long time.
Please note that the lenses shown here are for display and rimless frames allow you to pick the shape of your lens - oval, round, octagonal, you name it. The 301 model has an octagonal shaped demo lens and the 302 Model has a more oval shape demo lens. The lens and overall width dimensions listed are for the display lenses only. Your own measurements will be determined by your choice of lens. Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary based on maker and adjustment. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. This model is also available in what they call ''antique'' gold finish. The temples are the same yellow gold, however, not the darker ''antique'' gold finish. They're shown just below and can be ordered on this page, too.
All frames are thoroughly inspected before leaving the Attic. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in mint condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
