These classic gold wire rim octagonal eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''AO Varsity'' and the arms read ''106-S MADE IN JAPAN CE 43-24-150''.
These beautiful frames are from American Optical (AO), the first manufacturer of eyeglasses in the United States. AO all but stopped making frames, but these are recently minted, a real treat. They're quite well-made and they sport some of the classic features of the best American frames: strong, gracefully curved hinges, a broad, comfortable bridge and squared, spatula-tipped straight temples. The tips have a nice, clear Zyl coating on the inner sides and this same Zyl coat is used on the back of the bridge. Wonderful frames, very high quality and from a great maker. This same line of frames is also available other shapes and colors: oval, near round and even a broad rectangular shape, all in silver and gold and some in pewter and bronze tones, too, limited stock. They'll come with a nice AO case, as pictured.
Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of oval shapes for this frame. Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. As with most any saddle bridge frame, the bridge width can be adjusted depending upon the wearer. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in mint condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
If you have any questions about this pair of glasses or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to answer all questions promptly.
