These classic gold Art Craft Art-Bilt rimway eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The frames in the photos are marked ''ART CRAFT USA 22'' on the bridge, ''RIMWAY FULVUE 48'' under the eyewire and the arms read ''ART CRAFT U.S.A. 165''. This frame is available in several sizes and temple configurations, each engraved with their respective sizes.
This is Art Craft Optical's Rimway frame, called the ''Art-Bilt Rimway'' and made almost exactly like they've always been made back since the 1940s, even including the traditional ''sun ray'' filigree on the bridge. The bridge shape, the wire behind the lens, the hinge style - they're all the same design, well executed in a fine yellow gold finish. The only change to this frame is that the nose pads are clear, as opposed to the old-style, tan, mother of pearl pads, and that change has been since the 1960s! Besides that, this is exactly the same design they've made for generations - probably one of the least-changed frames and still made in the U.S.A. The adage ''Why trifle with perfection?'' is certainly the rule here. Great frames, true classics, ready for lenses.
Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. Rimway style
frames allow for a multitude of lens shapes. The top wire and hole spacing dictates the top edge of the lens and width, but the lower portion of the lens is
your choice. Art Craft offers some stock lens patterns for this frame and most optical labs (where the vast majority of lenses are actually made these days) will have each pattern already programmed in their
computers, so you will likely not need any lens pattern at all. The lens heights listed in the measurement table
above are for the lenses you see in the photos, what Art Craft calls their ''Perimetric #1'' pattern. It's probably
the most traditional of the five patterns and is what many people call an octagonal lens shape.
This frame does not come with ''demo'' lenses. In fact, they're usually shipped un-assembled, but because I want to make certain everything is in working order, your Art Craft Rimway frames will come from the Attic assembled and with a complete set of nice, long lens screws, bushings and washers, ready for lenses. If you would like to purchase a pair of the non-prescription ''demo'' lenses for your frames I've included that as an option down below. Demo lenses are not safety lenses and in some states the demo lens material is not allowed for use in prescription eyewear with drilled holes because it can shatter when broken. Demo lenses are sold only for pattern purposes and are not intended to be worn because of these safety considerations. All frames are thoroughly inspected before leaving the Attic so there are no surprises and your glasses will be in tip top condition. These frames are real classics and they make great daily-wear glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
Cable temple covers to fit these frames can be found here and here. The lenses offered below are ''demo'' lenses only,
clear, non-prescription lenses.
If you have any questions about this pair of glasses or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to answer all questions promptly.
